Transplanting

Care must be taken when your pumpkin is ready to transplant to the garden.  If I’m growing a giant pumpkin, I do not use the coconut husk or peat pots for transplanting.  These pots are fine for starting other vegetables or other pumpkin varieties, but I have not had good luck using them for giant pumpkins.

I start my giant pumpkin plants in a small butter cartons and then transfer them to large cartons.  I then take the plant from the large carton and transplant the pumpkin to the garden as soon as I see the third leaf is visible.

I transplant the pumpkin into a pile of miracle grow potting soil.  I also make sure the soil was warmed before I do the transplanting.
