Interestingly enough, pumpkin seeds do have genetics.  Often when you get good seeds, you will see something like this:


856 Hoffman 10 1180.5 Pukos 07 X 1544.5 Revier 09.   What this really means is Hoffman grew an eight hundred fifty-six pound pumpkin in 2010.  The female flower was from the seed of 1180.5 Pukos(Grower’s last name) and grown in 2007.  The male plant came from a 1544.5 Revier seed grown in 09.
